Meta is losing one of the managers responsible for the company’s internal AI-driven transformation. Emily Dalton Smith, who has been with the company since 2015 and most recently led the development of internal AI tools, has announced her departure. The news was confirmed by an internal announcement seen by Reuters.
Her departure comes at a time when Meta is undergoing a major overhaul of the way the organisation operates. At the heart of these changes is the Agent Transformation Accelerator (ATA) programme, which aims to develop AI agents capable of performing some of the tasks currently carried out by staff. As part of this initiative, the company is carrying out a wide-ranging reorganisation, involving redundancies, the redeployment of staff to new teams and greater process automation.
Dalton Smith’s team was responsible, amongst other things, for the development of Metamate – an internal AI assistant used by Meta employees. The tool is set to become the central hub for accessing company resources and to support tasks such as information retrieval, document analysis, presentation creation and software development. Meta has been expanding its capabilities for months, treating them as the foundation of the future working environment.
According to earlier announcements by senior management, the aim was also to consolidate disparate AI tools into a single, coherent system. Plans included features relating to contextual memory, task automation and cross-team collaboration.
Meta has not officially commented on the reasons for Dalton Smith’s departure. However, the company emphasises that the development of Metamate and the integration of AI into day-to-day work remain among its top priorities.
