Wiele osób utożsamia telemedycynę z teleporadami. Ale są w błędzie. Jak mówi Piotr Węcławik, dyrektor Departamentu Innowacji w Ministerstwie Zdrowia, telemedycyna to – w dużym uproszczeniu – gadżety, czyli urządzenia, które przesyłają do profesjonalistów medycznych istotne dane, takie jak zapis KTG, EKG itp. Co ważne, pacjent nie znajduje się wtedy w gabinecie.

„Gadżety”, jak mówi dyrektor, zachęcają często pacjentów do tego, by wziąć udział w rozwiązaniach telemedycznych.

„Nam zaś pomagają monitorować pacjenta, kontrolować, a jeśli jest taka potrzeba, wykonać telefon do profesjonalisty medycznego” – wyjaśnia.

Impuls do rozwoju rozwiązań telemedycznych dała pandemia, realizowany był program „Pulsocare”, gdzie „gadżetem” były pulsoksymetry. Najwcześniej rozwiązania telemedyczne, jeszcze kilkanaście lat temu, wdrażane były w kardiologii. Teraz do tego działu dołączył program zdalnego monitorowania płodu za pomocą KTG, ale realizowane są też rozwiązania zdalnego wykrywania… wad postawy u dzieci. Według dyrektora Węcławika wiele zastosowań ma telemedycyna w pulmonologii, a kolejne programy uwzględniają psychiatrię.
